TRANSITION
LOUISE BROOK

Louise works with layers of acrylic paint and mixed media to create rich textures and visual interest, whilst inviting the viewer on a journey to explore a contemporary narrative or more complex overarching theme. Louise describes her inspiration as a broad, natural curiosity to explore complex topics, with ideas drawn from an exciting variety of sources ranging from current affairs to academic research. Recent themes have included the cost-of-living crisis, biodiversity, the vast concept of time and the startling way in which human intelligence has evolved. Louise uses storytelling and discovery to incredible effect with the intention to both inform and intrigue, sparking interest, curiosity, and conversation.
“Transition” is Louise’s first solo exhibition, and a journey through her abstract portfolio to date. Remarkably, Louise is entirely self-taught and embarked on her creative career just 5 years ago. Her move into abstract work was even more recent and in just over a year she has created the four collections showcased here (Urban, Bridges, Biodiversity & Chronos) which demonstrate her unique style and thoughtful interpretation of complex themes.
Louise is currently represented by local galleries (in Oxfordshire/Northamptonshire) as well as by Influx Gallery (London) and her work is already starting to gain international recognition being Longlisted for both the Visual Arts Open 2023 and the Visual Artist’s Association Professional Artist Award 2023, as well as an Honourable Mention in the prestigious Artist of the Month Competition at Influx Gallery.
