Jenny Souter’s practice explores the interplay of narrative between humans and their environments.
The underlying concept reinforcing her work, examines how we view ourselves within it, and how our locations shape and change us as individuals.
The artwork that is produced is diverse, covering sound, film, painting, and drawing. Sound as a particular media, interests Jenny for its properties that affect the body and additionally conjure visual imaginings.
Jenny Souter has recently graduated from Anglia Ruskin University in 2021, gaining both a BA with honours and an MA in Fine Art. Jenny has had time to reflect and process the journey of further education as a mature student. In relation to the making of her artwork, she understands that it should respond to the environment where it is placed. Situational work should be made with responsibility and caution.
Jenny’s practice is diverse, covering different methods and materials, sound as particular media interests her for its physical properties.
Jenny also enjoys writing and the formulation of new theories.
Her interest in Damasio’s books, provide a platform to investigate art as a somatic experience, focusing on feeling as a navigational tool to describe how a person is affected and why.
Finally, she lives in a rural location and is fortunate to experience a natural environment. In particular the hedgerows are reminiscent of stained-glass windows with light breaking through.
